The Unfinished Pyramid of Horus Sekhemkhet

King Sekhemkhet may have been the son and successor of King Djoser.

Sekhemkhet started to erect his funerary complex at Saqqara, not far from his father's. Due to his early death, after only five years on the throne, his pyramid was left unfinished.

Among the fine artifacts found scattered in the debris in and around the burial chamber were stone vessels and pottery jars.

The simple and beautiful pieces of jewelry discovered in Sekhemkhet's burial chamber show the fine quality of craftsmanship in this early period of Egyptian history.
