Egyptian Craftsmanship

Egyptians mastered many crafts through various techniques and innovations. In the decorative arts, they were skilled in stone cutting and making stone vases in elaborate and delicate forms, producing jewelry with gold and stone inlays, making furniture with inlays and using metal hinges, chasing and casting metal statues and masks, and making glass for vases and inlays. They also made vases from faience, a glazed, highly colored and decorated earthenware.

In warfare, they gained an advantage by making daggers, sharp razor blades, and knives of flint, iron, and gold.

By the extensive use of the wheel in chariots and other transportation carts.

In the social realm, the ancient Egyptians invented many things to make their lives more comfortable. They invented a fire lighter and an oven that could be heated to different temperatures. A water clock and sundial were useful for reckoning the time both night and day, while the sunshade kept high officials cool.

Architectural work plans and the use of measuring rods, triangulation, and leveling instruments made construction easier .
