Tomb Chapel Paintings

The tomb chapel was the place for reunion of the family in ancient Egypt. Beginning in the Old Kingdom, illustrations of daily life were depicted on the walls of the tomb in relief or in paintings.

Scenes of entertainment were a common theme, especially in the Necropolis of Saqqara from which important wall decorations are exhibited in the Egyptian Museum.

These scenes show members of the deceased's family and his household. They illustrate the accomplishments for which he wished to be remembered.
