Mythological Conspiracies

Ancient Egyptian mythology has several tales of plots and conspiracies.

Possibly the most well known is that of Osiris. Osiris' brother, Seth, plotted against him. Osiris was killed, torn into pieces, and thrown into the Nile. Isis, wife of Osiris, collected his body again and resurrected him in the Otherworld, as a living king and god in the realm of the dead. She magically conceived a son, Horus, who defeated Seth.

Another myth tells of the time when mortals plotted against the sun god Re. He sent Sakhmet, a vengeful aspect of Hathor, to kill these mortals. Sakhmet enjoyed this task so much, she nearly destroyed all of humanity. Re tricked Sakhmet into drinking vast quantities of beer which had been colored to look like blood and she stopped her killing. The Egyptians believed that Shu, the god of dry air, wind, and the atmosphere, was the second divine pharaoh, ruling after Re.

The snake-demon Apep's followers plotted against him and attacked him. Shu defeated them, but became diseased due to their corruption, and soon even his own followers revolted against him. Shu then returned to the skies and gave his throne to his son Geb, the god of earth .
