Montuemhat and his Sculptures

A strong personality, Montuemhat was the Mayor of Thebes and the Fourth Prophet of Amun at Karnak during the era of the Twenty-Fifth and Twenty-Sixth Dynasties. Montuemhat was the effective ruler of much of Upper Egypt.

He was allowed to erect a huge tomb at Deir el-Bahari. He also left some sculptures of himself, two of which are exhibited in the Egyptian Museum.

The first is a statue showing him as a middle-aged man with serious facial features and some wrinkles on the cheeks.

The other sculpture is a bust showing him as an old man, with hair flaring out, weak eyes, high cheekbones, and more wrinkles .
