Middle Kingdom Jewelry

The Ancient Egyptians' great achievements in jewelry making began in the First Dynasty with the creation of the jewels found in the tomb of King Djer.

Old Kingdom jewelry can be traced to the items found in the pyramid of King Sekhemkhet and to those made for Queen Hetepheres, mother of Khufu.

Great progress in designing and producing jewelry was shown by the original forms and techniques achieved in the Twelfth Dynasty.

These jewelry items were found in the tombs of princesses of that dynasty at Dahshur, Lahun, and Hawara. Most of this jewelry is preserved in the Egyptian Museum. Wonderful golden bracelets, anklets, pectorals, pendants, chains, diadems, and other items were created with great care and tasteful designs. They were decorated with multicolored semiprecious stones
