The Legend of Osiris and Isis

In the legend of Osiris and Isis, their wicked brother, Seth, the god of confusion and disorder, killed Osiris by a trick. He manufactured a golden box, according to the exact measurements of his brother Osiris, and announced that he was giving the golden box to the person who shall exactly fit in it.

After it was tried by the other companions and found not to fit, he asked his brother Osiris, who knew the wickedness of Seth, to try it. Of course, the box fit. Seth then nailed the lid on top of the box and threw it with the body of Osiris in the Nile.

Osiris was rescued by his sister and wife Isis, but he was killed again and mutilated. Seth distributed Osiris' parts all over the country, so Isis collected them and tried to put them together.

After the last part, the backbone (Djed Pillar), was found, the body of Osiris was complete again. Through a charm, which Isis possessed, Osiris came back to life.

Thus the Djed Pillar symbolized resurrection, stability and endurance and became the emblem of Osiris. When the deceased takes this emblem or amulet into his tomb, he will remain complete in the afterlife and shall be resurrected and live forever .
