The Giza Plateau

The king was at the top of the pyramidal social structure and was charged by the gods to guide the country toward prosperity.

The king was considered the god's representative upon earth and the god incarnate, as well as the owner of the land and its resources. The people, therefore, participated in great royal and religious building projects to earn their living and to show respect to the god and the king.


A pyramid complex was constructed as a state project for the burial of the king and for his funerary cult.


The god, the king, and the people, were all united in this effort to gain eternal life
