The River Nile was the main highway of travel in ancient Egypt, so boats and ships were very important means of transportation.
Thirty-five wooden boat models of different types and functions were found in the tomb of King Tutankhamun. They include fishing, cargo, or transport boats. Some of the boats have masts and some have decorated cabins for sheltering the king and his officials.
Models of papyrus boats made of painted wood and sun-boats with the seat of the god on board were also found.
All these models would act symbolically to transport the king, as sun god, on his journey along the streams of the underworld to complete the cycle of resurrection.
